Melburger, what we kindly refer to as Melbourne’s ever growing burger scene, continues it’s exponential growth in the world’s most liveable city as the latest challenger for the royal burger throne. No longer content with the inner city, specialised burger bars have begun their descent onto suburbian Melbourne with Mick Adams Burger Bar setting up shop within the busy Oakleigh station strip.
After initially going gangbusters in terms of hype and popularity when Mick Adams first opened, the boys behind the kitchen were humbled by the cold of winter. Unhappy with this, they looked to revamp the menu, and they’ve landed on something that’s worth coming back to.
Similar to 8-bit, Mick Adams shows off a varied menu that begs you to come back and try more. The Petey Sweetie stood out with its 200g grass fed patty, fried egg, bacon, caramelised onion, cos lettuce, beetroot, tomato relish, and jalepeno mayo. The burger gave a shout out to the old “the lot” fish and chip burgers of yore, whilst tasting thoroughly modern with their specialised buns and quality ingredients. The exact same thing can be said with their varied range of other burgers that run with whole salmon fillets, grilled chicken, pulled lamb and chickpea frittas; all with different bun styles to balance out the fillings.
On the side you’ll find relatively well priced shakes, chips that were made for sharing – beer battered, truffle parmesan, Jimmy Grants style with feta, chilli cheese fries, along with a few cheeky things like pop corn chicken, onion rings and maple bacon.
Mick Adams goes for the throat in terms of delivering the perfect burger bar. Fitting perfectly within the current food landscape of extremes (greens juices and fat feeds), they add a little extra sparkle with the addition of fried ice cream, sundaes, and a rotating list of dessert specials.
Quality of ingredients are clearly a high priority here, and if you like your burgers juicy, then this is the place to be. The burgers are big, messy, and flavoursome. While it doesn’t quite reach the very heights of our burger lists, it’s definitely got some weight to throw around vying for the crown of Melburger.
In A Sentence: Oakleigh’s got a new burger king.
Verdict: Would Go Back
